This tutorial for Photoshop CS3 uses the Soft Light layer and brush tools to replicate having a grey graduation and a ND filter slapped on the front of your lens.
The amount of times I have been out and seen a scene that cried out for a little creative glass and all I had with me was a point and click or one of the other cameras with no filters available.
Now I have found soft Light in CS3, that may no longer be an issue. This is just one of the seemingly many tricks you can create with Soft Light in Photoshop and the first in a line of tutorials we will be creating blessing the hallowed ground that Soft Light has passed on.

Something to remember when using the Soft Light brush - Don’t forget to put it back to normal as it will do your head in when you go to use the brush days later and nothing seems to be happening.
