For those of you who are in the UK and enthusiastic about photography, whilst not being a professional; If you don't know about the BBC Countryfiles 2008 'Animals in Action' photo competition... Get clicking and have a good look at entering.

Not only will it help to get your back-side out in the fresh air and appreciate your environment, but it'll give you a brief, a purpose and an end objective.

We have seen countless images out there on Flickr, PBase etc from UK amateurs... that would make potentially great entries already.
