Obama Inauguration - Beginning of a new era - You may not be a US citizen, but this is something we should all be watching...

Well, as I write on this very historic of days, my wife is currently having a small sleep before lunch...

She is a little uncomfortable and lacking in sleep in general. She has in fact just started the early stages of labour. The next 24 hours for us as a family, will potentially be the beginning of a new era and chapter in our lives. And above all, a very special and life changing event.

  

  

And at the very same time, across the pond in the US is the lead-up to, what is undoubtably, one of the most historic events to occur in our lifetimes. I think I can place my hand on my heart and say that I can not think of an occasion where the vast majority of the globe has the very same little tingling feeling sensation deep down inside, that something really special is about to happen. Something, we may never have ever seen before.

However it all pans out - This is a 'one to watch'. For those of you in the UK, there is the iPlayer - It will even work on your iPhone and other mobile devices. 

I may have a legitimate excuse for missing the live broadcast (If I am needed and not there with my wife, the new chapter of my life opening up to me, may well be one that I really, really don't want!) - But we will most certainly be watching the replay stored on the service.

If you do nothing else when the moment comes that the 44th President of the United States is sworn in - Take a picture of yourself - and if they are around you - with your friends or family.

It could well be one of the most important photos you ever take when you are looking back on your life and talking it through with your descendants - about how we got to the place we will be at, at that time.

It's time... Be patient, keep faith and don't judge too quickly - Change takes time, effort and patience - and us!

Lunchtime & smoke break plays... A new thing I'll start and probably end up forgetting to carry on with at some point as '09 progresses......

This is going to be my new year 'play thing'...   

   

I'm not looking to create masterpieces of photographic art - but merely to challenge myself to photograph the bland and mundane as often as I can and try my best to create something a bit more special and evocative from it.

This is going to be a smoke break, lunchtime stroll or just an iPhone quick grab type of project - Not planned and most certainly not an exhibition of my/our work...

This is for the fun and the challenge of working to stepping up my creativity on the spur of the moment and with zero notice and what could be regarded as pointless subjects. An experiment to see what I can achieve over the year from the dull, boring and most importantly, the totally missed and ignored views of our every day lives.

I'll probably only add three or so a week here on the blog in the 'Absolutely Nothing' gallery (from all and any of my cameras from iPhone to Hasselblad) and individual weekly posts (hopefully). All the images will be added to the Ginkgo Photo Blog, warts and all - So if you want to have a look at them, look here and you'll see the whole collection - and a bunch of other stuff too.

The irony is - I still think they would make a profit if they did actually launch it - That's the power of a brand... And, 45 minutes to type an email? I've seen countless emails which obviously took a lot longer to write when a 2 minute phone call would have done the job.
