Getting towards the end of a beauty fashion shoot yesterday and whilst standing chatting to one of the models mum, with my 1D MkIII in my hand, it out of nowhere went 'BANG!'
Made us both jump as it was rather loud and not the type of noise you expect to come from a camera.
Having given it damn good check, everything seems fine with it! Which given the volume, amazes me. So the big question is WTF was it?!
I've popped a few posts out in some forums and had the usual expected answers - With only one really sounding plausible, as apart from the bang

/pop, there were no other physical events. no smoke, no cracks and everything works just fine,
The answer which sounded most likely was that a bolt had sheared internally under load. So I will be talking to Canon on Monday about it.
Apart from that - Any ideas? I obviously need to get to the bottom of it as, whilst i have backups, this thing pays the mortgage and school fees.
All thoughts welcomed and appreciated...
[UPDATE]
Canon service team were exceptional and really jumped on the case... At the moment, it looks like one of the batteries in the Bowens Pulsar radio trigger may actually have exploded - As on inspection it had leaked quite a lot and was slightly (only very slightly) larger at one end around the seal.
Given that the camera and other components all work just fine, there is no rattling anywhere and whilst Canon were more than happy to arrange a pick up and give it an inspection for me. I am reasonably comfortable that it was indeed one of the AAA batteries giving up the ghost and scaring the crap out of us. For those that are interested, it was a Duracel Plusl - And, is the second one I have found leaking in one of the triggers.
There are now a couple of Energizers in there instead...
Alls well that ends well I suppose - hopefully the battery didn't damage the trigger.

It's so nice to have you do all of the research for us. It makes our decision making so much easier!! Thanks.
