Utter depressing irony of the fact that the vast majority of farmland surrounding where I live and work is used for growing opium poppies with an ultra low, hard to extract and expensive yield.
Yet, in the Afghanistan we are waging war on the expert growers of the decent stuff. I appreciate it may be a little simplistic, but why the hell can't we pay them a good whack for the high quality stuff in the first place and thus remove them from the criminal supply chain?
