Hardmac reports from their sources that we may very well indeed soon be seeing a revised version of Aperture under the nomenclature 'X' rather than '3.0'.
" According to our sources, with Aperture X, Apple decided to align its name with Mac OS X, and should release this new evolution of its Pro-oriented photo editing application at the end of November and fore sure before year's end. We did not receive any additional details about this new version, but it seems that it will be able to benefit from Snow Leopard as well as be more multi-core aware. "
I for one certainly hope so as it really is in need of an overhaul to take true advantage of the 64 bit operating system and all the additional bells and whistles that Snow Leopard has to offer under the hood.
Whilst die hard Apple loyalati will no doubt buy Aperture whatever the delay. Apples main aim has got to be a timely release with the competition hot on its heals in the form of Adobe Lightroom Beta 3, currently available for pre-release download and use.
The longer it takes to get the new version out, the longer the professional and pro-sumer market has to get to like the offerings of Lightroom 3.
I am hoping for something truly worth the wait with Aperture X. Given Apples track record, it's pretty much a definite that it will be a class leader (I hope)...
